Set a Default Cost Percent (Cost %)

This feature calculates the cost of a SKU item as a percentage of the cost of other line items.

Note: This feature is now obsolete, so we recommend using the %Target and Percent features instead. Move the Cost% value to the Percent column in the Cost Definitions grid in the Price list. Set the %Target based on the line item type (see resources). Be sure to clear the Cost% column or the new feature will not work correctly.

The line items to which the percentage applies depends on the SKU Class type.

For this feature to work, the SKU class type for the line item must be:

In this example, the “Cost %” in the SKU items grid is set to 10%. The “Material Waste” line item is a “PctMaterial” SKU class type, so the percentage applies to material line items. The %Target is set to “UseCost,” so the cost of Material Waste is calculated based on the cost of the material.

The material cost is $528 so the 10% Material Waste is $53 and only impacts the line item’s cost, not the revenue or retail charged to the customer.

In this example, the “Cost%” in the SKU items grid is set to 10%. The “Sales Commission” line item is a “Pct” SKU class type, so the percentage applies to all line items except tax and credit card fees. The %Target is set to “All” so the cost of Sales Commission is calculated based on the revenue of the line items.

The revenue of all line items except tax is $2,205 so the 10% Sales Commission is $220 and only impacts the line item’s cost, not the revenue or retail charged to the customer.
