The Tracing Image Tool

The Tracing Image Tool lets you trace countertop layouts from a cabinet plan that is to scale or blueprint instead of drawing tops from scratch or using our predefined shapes. It’s designed for faster layout creation when your source image is truly to scale.

Things to note
  1. You can only use one image per Area.
  2. Accepted images:
    1. Cabinet layouts
    2. Blueprints
    3. Any drawing confirmed to be to scale
  3. Do not use this tool for hand-drawn customer sketches. (Hand-drawn images are typically not to scale and can produce inaccurate results.)

1.     Take a screenshot of the layout (using Snipping Tool or a similar tool) or copy the image so it’s saved to your clipboard
2.     Open the Area Module and Click the Tracing Image Create/Edit button.

          

3.     A window will open where you can paste your image by clicking Paste Image in the upper-left. If you need to remove the image for any reason, click Clear (next to Paste).

          

4.     To make sure your trace is accurate, you’ll need to calibrate the scale using a measurement you know is correct in inches or millimeters. In this example, we know the wall behind the range is 120", so we enter 120 in the Line Length box.

          

5.     After entering the Line Length, you’ll use your mouse to “show” the system which line on the drawing matches that measurement:
    1. Go to one end of the measured line on the image
    2. Left-click and hold
    3. Drag to the other end of the measured line
    4. Release the mouse to set it
        Once complete, click OK in the upper-right.

          

6.     The Layout will now appear in the drawing area of the Customer Layout Tab.

          

7.     If you want to hide the image, uncheck the checkbox in the Tracing Image field. Typically, after you trace your tops, you’ll want to hide the image so it does not appear on your Estimate report (or other reports).

          

8.     Click the Draw button and trace the tops as you normally would:
    1. Left-click to start drawing
    2. Left-click again to create a corner/return
    3. Right-click to complete the shape

         Tip: For easier tracing, start on the right-hand side of the screen whenever possible. This lets you trace along the wall line, instead of having to follow the front edge of the countertop (which is what happens when you start drawing from the left).

          

9.     Once you’re finished tracing, your drawing will display the countertop shapes (in blue) along with the measurements.

          

10.     After tracing is complete and you’ve confirmed everything looks correct, hide the tracing image (uncheck Tracing Image) to keep your layout clean and prevent the image from showing on reports.
